Preventive Effects of Vitamin C on Cataracts: In Vivo Study

Background: A cataract is a disease caused by various factors, one of which the aging process. With increasing age, formation free radicals will cause pathological reactions in lens and other toxic compounds, resulting oxidative reactions. Administration vitamin C injection as an antioxidant can reduce reactivity lenses induced sodium selenite. This study aims to determine preventive effect administration on selenite-induced cataracts based value malondialdehyde (MDA) levels.
 Methods: The experimental used 30 rats were then divided into 5 treatment groups (P1, P2, P3, P4, P5). Lenses extracted for measurement malondialdehyde. MDA levels was analyzed using One-way ANOVA statistical test.
 Results: Statistically, there no significant difference each group. Analysis mean between 2 showed that average mice P4 P5 relatively lower than P2 but higher P1.
 Conclusion: Giving able (a marker stress) better group did not receive C, statistically different.
